I lived in Spain for three years 1975-78. While there I purchased three paintings by an artist by the name Beller. One is a landscape and the other two were of an old man and women respectfully. I would love to know more about the artist. Do you have any more information?

Hey you guys, my mom has been running me around about this guy Beller, but I am soo surprised at the prices his paintings are selling for. My mom has 3!!! I don’t know what advise to give her about selling it (for the right price of course)… so I was thinking of an antique roadshow, but I am unsure.
Can anyone help me? I would appreciate it!
Thanks

I have a painting from Spain in the 1950s or 60s, Artist’s name is BELLER. It is an oil painting of a man on a horse drawn carriage with 4 horses. There is a great deal of darkness in the painting. There is also a figure on the sidewalk with an umbrella. The painting has the names Fonda and vinos on it. No idea if this is the painter you speak of but it would be nice to know!

Oh yeah! the names Fonda and Vinos appear on the fronts of buildings in the painting. It is a city painting but very creepy almost!

I bought a pair of paintings on one of many visits to Madrid in the late 1980’s and they are signed Beller. They are of an old man making toys, and the other I assume his wife sitting stitching. Can anyone tell me anything about the artist or these pictures.

I wish the person ‘xylophone’ who posted this message above on 2/6/08 at 1AM would contact people on this sblog and let us know if we own a real Beller, or who was Beller, Beller is not a Spanish name……give us some info so that people can have some hope in this economy. i agree. it makes me wonder what this persons motive is. i would so welcome any response to any of our questions reguarding beller. the excitement is gone and im left with frustration. its like the jokes been told and were still waiting for the punchline! has anyone found any info? i did find that a beller has paintings in museums and major universitiies around the world and the new yorker wrote an article on him in the 1950s, although i have no clue if its our beller. we have posted our paintings. is it possible to see yours?

I have 2 Beller paintings I purchased when i was stationed in Madrid, Spain.(1984-1987)I can send you photos of them. One is a old man fixing shoes, and the other is an old woman stoking a fire in the fireplace with a white cat.(both are framed in a medium mahogany color and are all wood with a decorative edge-original) You said something about selling them at auctions, what does this involve and how much do you think we could get for these, and what is your fee? and your opinion? Thank you very much. sue

Bob, if I may, a very interesting idea…..we would be more than willing to work with you on this project. To begin we should copy and paste what you wrote to me about Beller on the ’splog’ to unite people to do same. Add an email address for downloading artwork. Our intent is to sell this piece, but need some type of figure to start with. I do not know how to start a URL………we do have a web site for Earl’s ivory, Damascus knives (www.knivesbyearlmann.com) with GoDaddy. Do we start with this type of presentation, who pays.all of us? This site seems to be a site where all you get on your computer is viruses and trogans attached to all you do. I called the Museum of Arts in Philadelphia PA and they have no information on this artist. 215-763-1800. Whoever has this site is adding viruses to your computer. I will do an Adaware when I have posted this. It is bogus.

Hi all! I still have my two Bellers and I’ve scoured the internet and have not found much info as of yet.
It seems when clicking on xylophone’s line at the top regarding Beller paintings,it takes you to a now removed Craigslist blog from Denver,Colorodo.I do not think xylophone is a credible judge of Beller artwork.
So far,I’ve only been able to verify that others have purchased Beller’s art in Madrid,Spain. One couple told me they purchased their Beller paintings in the 1970’s in Madrid while stationed there.
If anyone would like to send pics of their Beller painting to me,you may send to musiclovers69@yahoo.com
Thanks Chris for your hard work as well! Maybe one day we will find out who the TRUE Beller artist really is!

I have two paintings with Beller signature bottom of painting. One has an old lady cutting bread on a chair
near a fire place, bag of vegtables on the floor.
I would say its in extremely great condition. The
other has a old man sitting in a chair lighting or making the fire get bigger, with a pipe in his mouth,
dog laying on the floor. I know what some of these
can go for. I can’t find any where online on some
more information on these. 702 501-9207 Jason

I too own a Beller, it’s been in my family since the early 1960’s. It’s of a young boy holding a walking cane and his dog. We as young kids were always spooked by the painting because the eyes seem to follow you everywhere. It is also signed BELLER. with the period at the end. I’ve been doing research too but can’t get nowhere with it.

THIS WHOLE MESS IS VERY STRANGE. HOW CAN SO MANY OF US HAVE PICTURES BY BELLER AND CAN’T FIND ANY INFO? SO FAR: SPANISH OIL PAINTER FROM SPAIN (MADRID)? SIGNS BELLER. IN CAPS. SOLD TO MANY MILITARY PERSONNEL AND TOURISTS. NO RESPONSE FROM PERSON WHO POSTED PROMISING NEWS OF BIG MONEY. I KNOW WE ARE ALL TRYING TO RESEARCH. SOMEONE COULD CONTACT GALLERIES IN SPAIN, I DON’T SPEAK SPANISH. IF WE CAN GET SOME VALUES ON THESE PICTURES, WE COULD PROCURE AN INEXPENSIVE WEB SITE ON GO DADDY.COM AND WE COULD POST OUR PICS AND SELL THEM OURSELVES………..GET BACK TO ME WITH OTHER IDEAS, CHRIS MANN

IT SEEMS THAT BELLER IS NOT AS FAMOUS AS THIS SIGHT MAKES HIM OUT TO BE,,,WHEN CHRISTY’S AND SOTHBY’S DOSENT KNOW OR VALUE HIS PAINTINGS,,NEITHER ONE WOULD GIVE ME A VALUE OR OFFER TO SELL BECAUSE IT DOESN’T MEET THERE REQUIRMENTS,,,,I am afraid that this work is not by the hand of an artist we are familiar with or have sold in our sales, and as such would fall below the £5,000 threshold we maintain for our sales, and could not be included in an auction with us. WHEN WE LIVED IN SPAIN I CAN REMEMBER MR BELLER COMING THROUGH BASE HOUSING,,SELLING HIS PAINTINGS OFF A WAGON,,,OH WELL THE SENTIMENTEL VALUE IS WOTH MORE,,,GOOD LUCK,,,,,skroadking@yahoo.com

BELLER WAS A SPANISH ARTIST. HE DOES GREAT WORK, AND I HAVE SEEN MANY OF HIS PAINTING. I BELIEVE HE WAS KNOWN TO PABLO PICASSO AND RAN IN HIS CIRCLE OF FRIENDS. THE PAINTING I HAVE LOOKS AS IF BELLER PAINTED A PICTURE OF PABLO HIMSELF. HOWEVER HE SIGNED THIS PAINTING WITH HIS FULL NAME IGNACIO BELLER. I PERSONAL DON’T WANT TO SELL MY PAINTING
BUT WOULD CONSIDER IF PRICE IS RIGHT!
