I’m sure you’re familiar with the idea that many animals have advanced senses that far surpass human senses in performance, not to mention that its kind of a bummer to realize that we aren’t necessarily as genetically advanced as furry things that eat their own fecal matter. I don’t think I’ll ever quite get over the fact that most animals can see, hear and smell in ways we can’t comprehend – it did, however, occur to me that humans might actually have developed senses of taste that completely outstrip those found in the animal kingdom. Being that we’re all a bunch of omnivores, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if humans have tried to eat more random crap than any other organism in existence; after all, I’m sure we’ve eaten at least one of every other organism we could find if only to see how delicious it was. If anything, I feel a bit less bad about being sense-inferior to my pets when I consider that cats can’t taste sweet things and dogs eat their own feculence. Ok, so maybe I can’t see in the dark or smell your ass from across the room, but at least I can taste the difference between an M&M and a Tic-Tac.
